Description

Three Fathers, a fictional work, revolves around the inner thoughts of a twelve-year-old boy, Sunny Moore. He is country-raised, and hence free-willed. His mind is set on nothing controversial until one day, visiting his local barbershop, he unexpectedly discovers that he is possibly not the son of the man whose name he carries.

The time is the early 1950s; the setting is the tropical island of Jamaica. Sunny soon comes face to face with the very man, a policeman, who was mentioned to him in the barber’s shop. This gentleman is the spitting image of Sunny. The boy therefore presumes that this is his biological father, but the policeman will not confirm this.

Sunny is confused due to the bits of facts he has gathered surrounding his birth. He goes by the name of one father who has no part in his life; he discovers another father who makes no effort to claim him; and there is yet a third father, whom he regards as his true father, who has taken the responsibility of bringing him up.

Sunny realizes he is a ‘bastard’ in the true meaning of the word. He begins to paint a picture or rather a story, of how he thinks he came to be, from conception to birth to upbringing. He wraps the story around the limited facts he has, telling it sometimes in a most graphic and explicit style. At one point, his thinking goes into an emotional spin, revealing deep inner thoughts, as he experiences multiple levels of rejection. Coming out of that traumatic stage he is able to also tell of his successes in the academic world, relationship to people and nature.

Stay tuned for a surprise ending.
